Thought: One of the challenges of our lives is to see ourselves for who we really are. This quote from John Newton reflects the truth of God’s word, ‘I am a great sinner and Christ is a great saviour’. Each of us can too easily find ourselves in the shoes of the crowd in Luke 23 and turn our backs on Jesus and reveal our sin and rebellion. The amazing good news is that God’s grace is sufficient for us (2 Cor 12:9) and God isn’t finished with us yet! (Philippians 1:6)
Points for Prayer:
· Reflect on John Newton’s words above and be honest with God about the sin in your life.
· Read Ephesians 2:1-10 - Praise God for his love that has ‘made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions.’
· Pray for strength to turn your back on self-reliance. Pray through Proverbs 3:5-6 and identify those areas in your life where you need to ‘Trust in the Lord.’
